Roger Steele MBE - New Year Honours

Concord is delighted to congratulate Roger Steele on being awarded the MBE in the New Years Honours List for services to young people

Those who have been in drum corps for any length of time will know that Roger has been the director of Concord since its foundation in late 1984. Prior to that he was director of Shades of Blue and the commanding officer of 367 Squadron Air Training Corps.

He served the drum corps activity at Board Level for over 20 years including periods as Vice Chair of DCUK.

Without doubt his leadership and organisational skills are legion.

For over 40 years Roger has organised and lead young people's groups. As CO of 367 Squadron ATC he led them to the Lees Trophy which recognises the most efficient and active unit in the Corps. Concord gained 2 DCUK Class A Championships (1985 & 2006), 2 British Drum Corps Federation Championships (1987 & 88), DCUK Cadet Championship (2001). 2 BDCF Winterguard Championships (1987 & 88) and DCUK Junior Class (2003)

For several years Roger has worked as Centre Manger at Croft House Settlement which is a community centre working with numerous youth and community groups.

At Concord we know our longevity (25 years at a Drum Corps Finals) and success, both on the contest field and more importantly developing young people, is down to Roger. With the support of his wife Cathy, who has always been active in the organisation and in keeping him in line, Roger has without doubt earned this recognition.

DCUK would also like to pass on our congratulations to Roger.
