Weekend for all Visual Designers/Staff with Michael Gaines

Press Release by Corps Style Concepts

To all Marching Corps, Colour Guards & Visual Ensembles,

Join us in a unique weekend for all Visual Designers/Staff with Michael Gaines

There are moments in a life time that you wish  you could have been there if you only knew about it before hand. There are those people that you always wanted to meet and learn from, but how and when? Michael Gaines is maybe one of those people you always wanted to meet and learn from. This is now possible because Michael will be leading a weekend full of workshops and Master classes. We are sending  you this information now, giving you plenty of notice of this event which will offer you the chance to meet and learn from Michael!

On 27 and 28 October 2012 Corps Style Concepts  will organize a weekend full of workshops and master classes purely focused on VISUAL. Michael is arguably the best show designer in the world. He was the Show Designer for the Cavaliers from 1998 till 2011 and he won 7 DCI titles with them but also he is the designer for The Pride of Cincinatti and both the Aimachi Winterguard and the Aimachi Indoor Percussion from Japan. All these units made top 5 in the WGI competition. Numerous Marching Bands won titles with their shows written by Michael. This weekend is empowered by Pyware, KNFM & Color Guard Netherlands.

Of course we realize that The Netherlands is not around the corner but on the other hand travelling through the Tunnel or by Plane is still cheaper and closer by than travelling to the USA. The location is only 20 minutes drive from Amsterdam Airport!

Saturday 27 October

Saturday 27 October is focused on How to design a show with software. Michael will guide you through the design process in Pyware. He will teach you how to set up a basic drill and will move on to more advanced features during the day. This is a real HOW TO workshop with plenty possibilities to interact with Michael and the other participants. The work shop is interesting for show designers wanting to work with Pyware or for those that want to learn more advanced features. In our experience many designers learned Pyware on the go but Michael will show you all the features that Pyware offers and how to use it.  This workshop is a MUST for all you show designers for drum & bugle corps, Marching Band, Winter Guards and Indoor Percussion units but not only the visual designers. This workshop is also interesting for those in your organization that do the small adjustments in the show needed because members left or joined after the show was written. This knowledge can save you lots of money because you can do it yourself and you do not have to go back to the designer.

You can bring your own laptop with your version of Pyware but even if you do not have Pyware you can join. CSC will give you a free limited access edition of Pyware version 7.0 which will work all weekend. Of course we have great deals for you during the weekend to get your own copy of Pyware version 7.0 or upgrade from a previous version.

Learn from the best how to design a show with the help from maybe the most advanced software in the world. No theory but practical information and plenty time to practice with the software.

Sunday 28 October

On Sunday 28 October we will have no less than 3 events all day.

Morning Program

Michael Gaines will open the morning session together with Co Host Frank Wienen (senior CSC Consultant on Marching Technique). Michael will give his vision on show design and the consequences for the marching staff. During this one hour session you can ask both men all the questions you have but they will also share their thoughts with you with challenging quotes. After this Opening session the group will split in two.

One group will go in on the show design process with Michael Gaines. He will share his vision on show design with the participants. How does he create his shows. This morning session he will put the focus on the design process for the outdoor activity (Marching Band, Drum & Bugle Corps). Of course he will talk about the integration of auxiliary units (Color Guard, Twirl Teams). He will talk about the design process for The Cavaliers(USA) and Aimachi Marching Band (Japan) as examples. This will be an exciting and interactive session that is interesting for show designers and judges since it will touch more his philosophy and creative process.

Frank Wienen will share his experience as a marching technician with the participants. How do you translate the Visual Design into a plan for the rehearsals. What does it take to create an effective rehearsal? This session is very interesting for your marching staff. Frank is in normal life a Psychologist and was responsible for some of Holland's most exciting programs with a.o. Rijnmondband, Van Limburg Stirumband and Con Spirito. Currently he serves as Caption Head Visual for Jubal Drum & Bugle Corps from Holland. He is a alumnus of the world famous Santa Clara drum & bugle corps from the USA.

Afternoon Program

In the afternoon Michael will host a master class with the topic: The Design Process for an Indoor unit. He will talk about how he designed the programs for The Pride of Cincinatti (World Champion Winter Guard), the Aimachi Winter Guard (World Division Finalist WGI -Color Guard) and the Aimachi Indoor Percussion unit (World Division Finalist WGI- Percussion).  This session is interesting for Show Designers, Staff and judges that are involved in Winter Guard and Indoor Percussion activity.
