Concord launch two "open to all" projects

As a continuation of their overall development programme designed to offer members and friends of Concord Drum and Bugle Corps extended opportunities for music-making and performance, the Sheffield-based organisation has announced the launch of two new projects

CONCORD CONCERT ENSEMBLE

This is a “sit-down” wind band for brass, woodwind and percussion players. The repertoire will range from Christmas carols to West End shows, jazz to classical – the choice of music being made by those who attend. Players will be expected to provide their own instruments (although the Corps has some available for new players). There will be some instruction available for beginners and learners.

Membership is open to ANYONE whether members of Concord Drum & Bugle Corps or not. Parents, staff, alumni and supporters are all invited to come along and join in. Visiting players will be welcomed at any time.

The ensemble is strictly for amusement only and to extend the experience of players in other forms of music-making. There are absolutely no plans for any competitive element, although public appearances may be considered if appropriate.

CONCORD SAMBA BAND

The rhythmic sound of a percussion samba band is most infectious and can stir even the deepest of souls into action. This group is designed for FUN ONLY (although again appearances may be considered if appropriate). We shall use whatever percussion instruments we can lay our hands on (or make). Instruction will be available at all levels. ANYONE can play samba rhythms – give us 10 minutes of your time and we’ll have you playing along.

As with the Concert Ensemble, the activity is open to absolutely ANYONE – come along and give it a try – we guarantee you’ll have fun.

Both projects will rehearse in the Corps Croft House headquarters in Sheffield on Saturday afternoons – the Concert Ensemble from 2.00 to 4.00 pm and the Samba Band from 4.00 to 5.00 pm.

Both groups are open to ANYONE to attend – there are no age limits and no membership or joining fee - just a minimal (£1 per rehearsal) subscription charge to cover rent, etc.

Both groups will be launched on SATURDAY 4th NOVEMBER – times as above.
