SoundSport comes to Brigades' Showcase
On Saturday 3rd June the annual Boys’ & Girls’ Brigade British Marching Band Championships will be taking place at the indoor arena at Northwood Stadium in Stoke-on-Trent. This event has become a popular fixture in the calendar for Brigade bands and is always very well attended however the organisers could see a gap for those performing units that were not full blown marching bands and so could not really compete on a level playing field and so an approach was made to Drum Corps United Kingdom to see if it would be possible to incorporate a SoundSport section in to the days’ timetable.
SoundSport is designed to offer units of any style the opportunity to perform, compete and be rewarded and not be disadvantage due to smaller membership numbers.
Contest organiser, Ray Westbrook, said “There are over 100 performing groups within the Brigade and we were looking for a way of being able to integrate more of them into our Championships plus providing valuable experience for our younger members and this ticked all the boxes. It made perfect sense to use the SoundSport brand to help these units.
“We are delighted to be able to help Ray and his team offer additional performance opportunities within their Championships”, added Alan Thompson on behalf of SoundSport and
DCUK, “and are really looking forward to seeing what the units have to show us on the 3rd June”. Thanks are also extended to the 13th Bromley Boys’ Brigade/The Pacemakers Drum & Bugle Corps for hosting the event:
