Forgemen at the Sheffield Steelers

TThe Forgemen had the privilege of being invited to play the National Anthem and entertain the 5,600-strong audience at the Sheffield Steelers v Nottingham Panthers ice hockey match. The game ended with a 4-3 victory for the Sheffield Steelers after a penalty shoot-out.

The brassline (and four little helpers!) performed the National Anthem at the beginning of the game under the spotlights of the Arena, and then continued to liven up the crowd playing short bursts of music including “The Great Escape” and “We Will Rock You.” The younger members of the corps were not excluded either, rattling shakers and maracas during the game, and getting hugs from the Steelers mascot!

Thanks goes to Marie Eaton and Betty for organising/coordinating the event, and Mike O’Connor, the manager of the Sheffield Steelers team. A Canadian used to seeing marching bands back home, he first saw the band rehearsing at a venue in Sheffield and contacted the band. Forgemen are now hoping to be invited back after receiving fantastic feedback from both the Sheffield Steelers staff and members of the audience.
