Concord member off to DCI
Press Release by Concord
Steve Wright – a senior
brass member at Concord Youth Music – has secured a place in the
trumpet line at Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps of Milwaukee,
Wisconsin, USA for their 2010 North American summer tour.
Steve is a died-in-the wool Concord enthusiast and sees this
adventure as an opportunity to extend his experience as a performer
and to better understand the techniques of brass and visual
instruction. He will be returning to Concord in late August to help
the performance ensemble prepare for their first 3-show concert run
in Sheffield this October.
Steve, who is 20 years old and one of three brothers with Concord
since 2000, is also very involved as a brass instructor with Concord
AllStars Junior Marching Band. He was selected in 2009 to act as
Trainee Music Leader for Concord in the national “Musique”
project funded by Youth Music via The British Federation of Youth
Marching Bands Organisations. He is a former member of the Sheffield
Youth Big Band.
Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps – 150-strong and best known for
their selections of Celtic music – is run by their founder and US
drum corps legend Roman Blenski on a very family-orientated basis -
as is Concord. They are a World Class competitor and in their 49th
year of Drum Corps International competition. Each year they accept
a group of guest musicians from the South African Field Band
Association and from Japan. The corps will be undertaking a full
8-week DCI summer tour programme this year involving participation
in around 32 contests and parades across North America, culminating
in the DCI World Championships in Indianapolis during August. He
travels to the USA on 30th April.
All of us at Concord wish Steve the very best of luck in his travels
and look forward to hearing details of his tour on his return.
