Percussion
MasterClass - Wow!
Press release by British Federation of Youth Marching
Band Organisations
Exceptional. Inspirational. Enthralling.
Dame Evelyn Glennie was all of these and more when she led the Federation’s Percussion Masterclass on April 15th at The Stables in Milton Keynes. Working with young percussionists from Black Knights, Senators and Milton Keynes Music Service, Dame Evelyn analysed individual performances with pertinent observations and good humour engaging the audience and all participants.
An impressive audience of 240 represented band leaders and members of all ages from eleven counties, and also included local young musicians from Milton Keynes. It is clear
from responses the Federation has received that the techniques and skills Dame Evelyn highlighted during the masterclass will be adopted by every individual and band who attended, and will make a real difference to individual and ensemble performances.
Without doubt this was an exceptional and inspirational afternoon, savoured by everyone who attended.
The Federation is indebted to Dame Evelyn for donating her time and undoubted enthusiasm to work with us, to The Stables Laine Dankworth Centre for its support, to the Arts Council for part funding this initiative and to Milton Keynes Music Service. We also record our thanks to Joe Fitzpatrick and the young percussionists from our activity for their significant contribution. The afternoon also raised funds for Dame Evelyn’s adopted charity ‘Able Child Africa’
This masterclass was part of the Federation’s ‘Streetfantastic’ initiative funded by Arts Council England. The remaining elements of this 2012 project focus on supporting marching youth bands –particularly those represented at the masterclass - to take part in Olympic related performances.
