Kidsgrove
Scouts and Beeches are DCUK 2012 Champions
The weather could not have better
at Mansfield Town FC on Saturday 22nd
September for the 3 3rd
British Drum Corps Championships as
the 2012 season was bought to an exciting climax.
11 Open Class Corps competed
in the Preliminary contest at
the beginning of the day to determine which 8 Corps moved
forward to the Open Finals and which would
compete for the A Class title. The
Company won this "battle" being one whole point clear of
Kidsgrove Scouts.
The first Championships of the day was for the Junior Class and
Kidsgrove Scouts Juniors were
crowned Champions beating off 4
other Corps for their 3rd British
title in as many years:
JUNIOR CLASS
Kidsgrove Scouts Juniors - 64.90
Concord AllStars - 57.10
Black Knights Cadets - 55.75
Thurrock Marching Brass - 50.35
37th Kingswood Cadets - 45.95
Three A Class Corps
fought it out for the British A Class title with Beeches taking
the honours also winning the Brass, Percussion,
Music, Visual and Effect Caption Awards with Phantom
Knights getting the Colour
Guard Caption Award:
A CLASS
Beeches Performance Ensemble -
51.85
Spirit of Coventry - 50.95
Phantom Knights - 48.10
And so the
floodlights came on and the
8 Open Class Finalists Corps took to the field.
Once again the audience were entertained superbly by all the units
and in a reversal of fortunes from the earlier prelims, and with
only 0.15 of a point between them, Kidsgrove Scouts "sneaked"
past The Company to win their fourth
British title in a row with the
Caption Awards being equally split - Kidsgrove winning
the Brass, Colour
Guard and Effect Caption Awards with
The Company taking the Percussion, Visual and Music Awards:
OPEN CLASS
Kidsgrove Scouts - 84.15
The Company - 84.00
Black Knights - 81.65
Commodores - 71.40
The 6th - 69.75
Nexus - 65.40
Staffordshire Knights - 63.05
Revolution - 54.15
