DCUK attend Drum Corps International Annual Meeting
At the end of January
representatives from Drum Corps United Kingdom (DCUK)
travelled to Atlanta, Georgia, USA to take part in the Drum Corps
International (DCI) Annual Business Meeting weekend which, for the
first time, included specific sessions for SoundSport and All Age
units.
Following the announcement by
DCUK towards the end of 2016 that they would be officially partnering with DCI to include SoundSport in their schedule and also
enhance the already successful DrumLine Battles held in 2015 and
2016, an invitation was extended by DCI Director of Sales and Business Development,
John DeNovi, to DCUK to attend the three day event and take an
active role in the discussions and workshops that would be taking
place.
The event was attended by over 50 members and organisations and, as
well as the opportunity for like minded people to network and talk
about their experiences (and issues), there were also sessions
regarding finance, copyright, health and well being and strategic
plans for the future. Read the full story regarding the DCI
Annual Meeting at dci.org.
Alan Thompson, who attended on behalf of
DCUK, remarked "The welcome received from all at the meeting
was fantastic and whilst there was a lot to take in over the three
days, the depth of knowledge and experience this partnership will
bring to the UK will only bring positives as we open up more
opportunities for performing groups to get involved at a level that
is best suited to them".
Following the event Dan Acheson, Executive Director/CEO of DCI
commented “We are honored to share the drum corps experience with you and all of our friends in the UK and having you at the meetings just underlines the importance of an ongoing exchange of information.”
Joe Fitzpatrick, DCUK Vice President, who is part of the DCUK team championing SoundSport
added "The information shared with us in Atlanta will most certainly help in promoting and facilitating SoundSport here in the UK. This really is the beginning of some exciting times to help grow our fantastic activity."
Over the coming weeks more details of the 2017 DCUK events will be
announced but in the meantime anyone interested in more details
