Success
in USA for Kidsgrove Scouts
On 21st August 2017 the members, staff and
supporters of Kidsgrove Scout set off to the USA for this fourth
trip to compete at the Drum Corps Associates World Championships
being held in Rochester, New York
Their first DCA contest took place on
Saturday 26th August in Reading, Pennsylvania where they came 5th
setting them up nicely for the following weekend at the World
Championships.
On Friday 1st September a number of the
members took part in the Individuals & Ensembles Contest and
special congratulations to their Brass Ensemble, Hannah Bailey
(Visual Dance) and Laura Britton & Kerry Dagger-Smith (Visual
Duet) all who took 1st Place in the categories.
Saturday 2nd September was the DCA Open
Class Preliminaries and the Corps were placed 6th putting them well
into the top 10 and so securing a place in the Finals contest the
following night.
The Corps last performance of the tour was at
the DCA World Championships Finals on Sunday 3rd September and
despite the poor weather and with a score of 91.73 they were awarded
7th Place and their Drum Major, Kerrie Brett, was announced as the
Best Drum Major - repeating her award from when the Corps last
attended this event in 2015.
During the tour the Corps also launched its
own Hall of Fame and congratulations to the first two inductees, Rob
and John Swindells - a well deserved accolade for both gentlemen.
DCUK would like to congratulate all at Kidsgrove Scouts on their achievements
whist in the USA and for representing the UK activity in such fine
style.
