The Company and Concord retain their crowns in 2017

The Select Security Stadium in Widnes was the venue for the 38th British Drum Corps Championships for the 5th time and the weather was near perfect as the 2017 Drum Corps United Kingdom season came to an exciting climax with both Open & Junior Class Champions claiming their prize for the third successive season.

The day started at just before 1pm with all 9 Open Class Corps competing in the Preliminary contest would decide the order for the evening floodlit Open Class Finals...

And so for the Championships events...

This year we had two Corps in Junior Class and both these young units really put on a show as the floodlights came on and they got the Finals off to a flying start. Concord AllStars took the crown for the 3rd time plus all the Caption Awards with Thurrock Marching Brass coming in with the Silver Medal for 2nd Place.

A sizeable increase in audience numbers from last year was great to see as we moved into the Open Class Finals. We have said it before but there really is nothing like watching Drum Corps under the lights to get the crowd on their feet supporting all the Corps and once again the enthusiastic audience really came up trumps making this a really special Finals event for the competing Corps. 

As last year, there was a number of battles taking place throughout the class and in the end The Company were triumphant winning their fourth DCUK British Championships title plus taking the High Visual, High Percussion, High Brass, High Music Caption Awards. Kidsgrove Scouts came so close and were in 2nd Place for the Silver Medal and also winning the High Guard & High Effect Caption Awards with Beeches making their best showing in a DCUK Championships securing 3rd place for the Bronze medal.
