In
2017 Drum Corps United Kingdom introduced its own Hall of Fame
as a way of honouring the “legends” of the activity ensuring they are remembered for the indelible impressions they have left
New candidates for the Hall of Fame have been nominated and seconded and discussed by the Hall of Fame assessment team and we are proud to announce that the
successful candidate for 2018 is John McNamara.
Congratulations to John and below is an extract from their
nomination...
JOHN MCNAMARA
As a young man John joined his local Drum Corps/ Marching Band “The Green Rebels Drum & Bugle Corps” and little did he know how the activity he would come to love would benefit his immense drive, creativity, passion and leadership.
Johns achievements within the drum corps activity spans many aspects of Drum Corps here in the UK and abroad. For over 30 years, John has been a constant pillar and go to guy of our drum corps community, operating and supporting all levels as an instructor, designer, administrator and judge.
John has dedicated himself to working with many Corps such as Avengers, Northern Crusaders, Free Spirit, Blue Eagles, Anchormen, Senators and The Company amongst many other ad hoc assignments.
Johns determination as a performer, instructor and designer to embrace continual development and education in relation particularly to percussion performance and design has been evident throughout the years in pushing the activity to new heights of innovation and excellence.
Johns achievements in regard to designing championship winning programs is well known combined with his tireless energy and support for developing many young performers, instructors and designers within our specialised art of drum corps.
John has also over many years has played an important role in the development, strategy, support and stability of DCUK itself with his contributions to various task forces, steering groups and can always to heard flying the DCUK flag to whomever he comes into contact with. Johns contribution was none more significant than during difficult times when he stepped up and became a member of the judging team rather than see the circuit going without at that important time.
John McNamara is inducted into the DCUK Hall of Fame in recognition of his unique contribution to the activity’s artistic, educational and performance excellence whilst also influencing the creative forward motion of the activity as a whole.
